When the Chicago Bulls , finally, made changes in their front office ( firing GM Gar Foreman and John Paxson moving to an advisory role) the questions immediately began regarding the future of head coach Jim Boylen.
Those questions have now been answered.
Bull Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karisovas announced Friday morning that Jim Boylen had been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“After doing a comprehensive evaluation and giving the process the time it deserved, I ultimately decided that a fresh approach and evolution in leadership was necessary. This was a very difficult decision, but it is time for our franchise to take that next step as we move in a new direction and era of Chicago Bulls basketball. Jim is a great human being that cares deeply about this organization and the game of basketball. I want to thank him for his professionalism and commitment to the franchise.”

There were hopes this season that the Bulls could and would contend for a playoff spot but at 22-43 when the season was suspended, those aspirations were not remotely close to becoming a reality. They were not a part of bubble play in Orlando and have missed the playoffs in four of the last five seasons.
Boylen assumed the head coach role on December 3, 2018 after Fred Hoiberg was shown the door. In his time as head coach he put together a stellar 39-84 record, a level of futility on exceeded by the infamous Tim Floyd who went 49-190.
The team also said that a coaching search will begin immediately.
